An SNMP scan with credentials and SNMPv3 enabled will typically obtain more useful data from SNMP-enabled devices.
Advantages include:
- better MAC address discovery
- more layer-2 topology information including VLAN information from routers
- improved fingerprinting
- the ability to obtain device serial numbers from some devices
- sysLocation information
You don't need to enable SNMP, but generally it will improve your scan results.
