The memory required for runZero Explorers to carry out a scan depends on the number of host systems scanned and how many services they have. For connector tasks, the required memory depends on the amount of third party data to be fetched.
For a small network such as a /24, it may be possible to scan successfully with less RAM than the recommended minimum. For larger networks, under-resourced Explorers may fail to complete scans, fail to upgrade, or fail to autostart after a system reboot. Third party datasets such as on-premises Tenable/Rapid7 imports may cause Explorers with insufficient resources to crash.
In general, we cannot guarantee the stability of Explorers on systems that do not meet our minimum hardware requirements.
