Task not processed, "task lost to explorer restart"

There are two main causes of "task lost to explorer restart".

The first possibility is that the machine hosting the Explorer rebooted. You can check for this by examining the system log on that machine. The Explorer also attempts to record in its own logs if the OS tells it to shut down, for example:

time="2023-08-21T18:33:18-05:00" level=info msg="Received shutdown request for service"
time="2023-08-21T18:33:18-05:00" level=info msg="The Explorer is shutting down..."

Note that it's not always possible for the Explorer to record when it is shut down by the OS, because the OS can kill the task without any notice. To know for sure if the Explorer was shut down by the system, you will need to check the system logs.

The second possibility is that the Explorer crashed. This mainly happens if it runs out of memory, which is more likely on networks with more devices, or if screenshots are being taken. A good first step is to make sure that the host machine meets the recommended memory requirements. You can find them at https://www.runzero.com/docs/installing-an-explorer/#system-requirements

In either case, a good place to start investigating is to examine the Explorer logs. Information on where to find the logs is at https://www.runzero.com/docs/installing-an-explorer/#log-management
