Many companies have specific password requirements that must be enforced by any software they purchase. Typical requirements are requiring a mix of upper and lower case letters, a number, and a punctuation character.
Even though these password rules don't improve security in practice, many companies will not purchase software unless those rules are in place. Hence we have adopted a minimal set of requirements needed to satisfy customers' mandatory purchasing requirements.
